American River Review is an entirely student-produced literary journal published annually by American River College (ARC). American River Review has expanded the scope of its coverage since its 1984 debut issue. To date, American River Review has received the title of Best in the Nation in the Community College Humanities Association Literary Magazine Competition on nine separate occasions. It is currently the only literary magazine in the nation to have received this award more than twice.
Each issue is the result of an eighteen-month process where hundreds of pieces of art, including graphic art, painting, sculpture, photography, creative non-fiction, fiction, and poetry of various genres are submitted for consideration to American River Review staff. Every submission is read, selected, edited, and published. The staff meets with the authors of the selected literary pieces to discuss the work and offer feedback for the author’s consideration with the goal of helping the piece reach its highest potential.
